Archive for the ':wildcards' Category

Yay, wildcards. This was a lot of fun, hunting back through the archives reading all your comments, and the comments and votes of staff internally. We have quite a few and its late, so I’ll keep the chatter minimal. Making the wildcard shortlist is:

1. Your own LOGO by Muamer. Came close in wk2, a lot of us would never give up on it (its def in my top3). A few of the grand finalists also picked this as their all time favourite design.

Alternate versions:

2. Do it, its your own label by s9. For its classic approach and simplicity, a favourite wildcard pick of Jana.

3. My own label 3 by sok . Another Jana pick, plays into her “hanger worthy” concept about Spreadshirt shirts. An idea that could still be developed upon in this entry.

4. Blue Tag by Inuit. One of the earliest of its type, and still one the best neck label designs for simplicity and execution.

5. Fast, reliable funny v2 by Mootsie

Playful and fun. Also suggested by a few of you as one of your wildcard picks.

6. Bubble Label by Ikou

Wow, so many versions and adaptations of this. Its a simple idea and the sheer number of versions Ikou has submitted has shown us how versatile it is. We’ve really enjoyed watching how this has developed, would deserve a spot for persistence alone ;) Alternate versions:

7. Against Nudity by Alexander Wende

We already announced that this would make the shortlist, great fun and presentation with a strong idea.

8. Invitation by Pascalphilly

Again one of the earliest. We still really like the idea of having the shirt cut out. Alternates:

9. The Icon by Bulgrin. A big favourite of the graphics guys, we’ve discussed this design at length so i’ll skip any more discussion on it.

10. Spreadshirt TM by Family. Ami and Branded were heavily into this one. Here is what Branded said “Like a record label, looks indie, edgy and different.”

11. Own Label so easy by Pascalphilly. Many different versions of this, the core of the idea always the same though, using panels to show a shirt. The panels can be rotated with different products/designs etc. Pascalphilly could have had more in this list, but we decided to judge Tick and Your Ideas as Wk7 entries so you didn’t get tired of reading his name here ;)

Alternate versions:

12. Handdrawn by Jeffersonb

Great fun, hand drawn fits nicely with our hand-made ethic and the fun icons are a nice touch.

Congrats to all you guys. Its been a really fun contest and making this list was great. Thanks for your suggestions as well, they helped. And to all those who haven’t made this list or another shortlist, we really do value your work. We review everything and even those that don’t make a list influence the direction of contest, we really do appreciate you!

The plan is to evaluate all these on Monday with the wk7 shortlist and announce who goes through from it either on Monday night or Tuesday.

Will we have a Goran?

Goran Ivanisevic has already proven that wildcards are capable of winning things. Now we need your help in finding the OLPsevic’s (bad i know…) from wk3 & 4! Go forth and comment on the gems that you feel should be in with a chance of making the wildcard shortlist for the grand final.

Thanks for your wk1&2 picks, if you have given us them yet you can add them here (we’ll have another post about them tomorrow).

One or two of you have been outspoken about our play it safe shortlist choice this week, great we really welcome your input. Now feels like the right time to introduce a feature we haven’t discussed yet, wildcards.

Basically we’ll review old designs again and they can be re-evaluated for a shortlist or even grand finalists slot! Find out all you need to know in the full post
