Greetings, everybody! After a rough 26 hours slide including deutsche bahn strike, flight delays, cancellations and still missing bags we finally reached Boston — where we attend the Mass Customization Conference at the MIT (yay!).
Nice city from what I’ve seen so far (Airport baggage lost&found office, Hotel lobby). If you have any tipps besides the “standard tourist program” and The National concert tonight or the Black Mountain gig tomorrow - we’re open and will stay here until wednesday. Here are some first photos and impressions from our hotel room, including the incredible toilet-phone …

My mum Some people have said that I singlehandedly keep Spreadshirt running, now they can show their appreciation by selecting none other than me as their new logo. You may have seen Japasa created an Adam logo, I guess from Jana’s video, or I have a stalker.
Its pretty funny, but definetely inaccurate:
Here are the mistakes and a new version I made
Already 37 designs for you to sink your teeth into. Thanks to all those who voted in the poll about additional filtering. We’ve opted for something in between voting and the extra wk4picks category, based on all your feedback. It goes a little something like this…
When we approve designs, if we see something cool, we’ll add the category wkxpicks (wk4picks for this week). As we often miss stuff and your opinion is equally valid at this stage, just carry on commenting entries as usual. Designs you like (based on your comments) that we didn’t tag wk4picks we’ll also add to this category. So we’ll probably end up having a lot of designs in the category, but still it will be another way to filter entries should you wish to. Again making wk4picks doesn’t mean you’ll make the shortlist, its just an additional way of stopping the popular stuff getting buried. You can see them all here http://olp.spreadshirt.net/entries/category/wk4picks/
Something about voting seemed not in the spirit of the OLP, we’re not ruling it out for future weeks but we always said it should be about discussion. So lets try the tagging and we can review how it goes next week.
Greg is working on adding top commented entries. This will be another way to see those interesting entries that your talking about. Hopefully we’ll have it sorted by this afternoon.
Already some interesting designs coming in, here are some things that caught my eye while I was approving this morning:
1. New version of Labelrange by Nieke (a Grand Finalist design).
- New placement of the T, new colours and lots more additional images showing how it would work in one colour, two colour, on teamwear, as a favicon etc. I was worried the design would not be adaptable enough, but seeing these new versions I’m very impressed. Check them out here. What do you think?
2. New version of Own Label - So easy
- Pascalphilly has developed the concept further, showing how you can swap, build and combine different elements using the three panels. Very cool.

- This design just gets better and better, a whole family of the cute labelheads now.

4. Spreadshirt Color Logo by Namelok
I really like the simplicity of this one, its striking but simple.

Great concept, already proving popular with you all “this is the best one i’ve seen so far. you form a t-shirt with your own hands. you got to make it to the final.” said jonasbmf. Builds upon the hands element of this weeks shortlisted Handmade s by chirp
Good luck in wk4 everyone, add anything you like that i’ve missed in the comments

We had a serious copyright violation yesterday. Its only the second time that we know of so far. But this one heavily infringes on the intellectual property of an individual. We don’t like to be too over-zealous or authoritarian, but in this case its completely unacceptable and we must act. Details in the full post.
I’ll be the first to admit I do sometimes look for opportunities to view photos of women in their underwear, but this one (opportunity not woman) fell into my lap and could not be ignored.
Lots of news coming in, here is a little roundup of the past few days:
1. Welcome back to tarzion who rejoined the contest. Tarzion was the winner of the first OLP designing the fingerprint we’ve loved using this past 1.6 years. We’re really delighted that he’s into OLP enough to come back and enter again. His latest entry entitled “a childs play” is really innovative:
More about this design and 4 other newsworthy items in the full post
One particular design is getting a lot of love at the moment, its “pen shirt” by theoze. Check out some of these comments:
Mootsie: “Pen-shirt by Theoze is the kind of logo that makes you think, without any doubt “this just works!” ”
Logodesigner: “Let me add it beats any other entry so far (including mine) in terms of bringing across the “your own label” message.I give respect where respect is due and as far as i’m concerned this contest could be ending right now as this is a perfect logo for this client.”
Aiduk: “I think this simply works”
What do you think? Does it answer the brief? Is it memorable enough? Do you think it could be improved in anyway?
Lets hope they play Bingo outside of the UK otherwise that will make no sense, or might be mis-interpreted as a request for duck logos this week. Neither the desired result, so lets move swiftly on………
Yesterday was a cracker. Really great start, 68 logos approved, would have been another 20 more if I’d preferred your designs company to my girlfriends last night, but we’ll clear any backlog today I promise. Heres the talking points from yesterday:
Following on from pt1
So lets recap where we started, week 1 got off to a flying start. Loads of great submissions and plenty we liked such as Blooming Print, but couldn’t pick as they weren’t close enough to the brief. So lets review what we had before we started the contest, it wasn’t this:
Blooming Print by Elwood & Label01 by bkohl
Its an (S)shirt by Logodesigner & Spreadshirt_005 by Lemerou
A great start yesterday. In total 17 new designs, a few shown above. I can see 9 or 10 that are being prepared as we speak, or type rather. Whats really great is all the discussion thats happening around the designs, its encouraging to see 15 or 16 comments offering suggestions or comments on entries. Keep giving feedback to the other designers, or feel free to rate a design in the comments, let us know which designs you want to see as this weeks weekly picks heading for the grand final.
We also had our first copyright violation. See this entry

We’ve placed the original tree, found here over the top. It also caused a similar problem when used on this Threadless design. Because of this although its still in the entries area (mainly as an example and because the comments are interesting), it won’t be available for progression to the grand final. We all know that inspiration comes from developing ideas we see around us, but its up to you to turn that inspiration into truly original output. In this case the designer found it listed as a free vector when actually it wasn’t, easy mistake to make but please check your sources.
Whats your favourite entry so far?
