1. Where am I? Whats this “OLP”?

Hello there lost sheep, you’re at the OLP1.6 site. OLP stands for Open Logo Project. This is the second time in the past 1.6 years that we’ve run this contest. Spreadshirt is looking for a new logo and is inviting you all to design our logo which will be seen by millions of people every year (well we’re not counting, but its a lot)!

One design gets picked, lots of prizes get awarded, Spreadshirt gets an awesome new logo and we all have fun.

2. How will the contest work?

The contest will last 7 weeks starting 27th Aug, closing mid-night Oct 14th. We have this main one and the entries blog where you can all post your entries. Best designs and discussion we’ll pick out from the entries blog and show here.

Every week starting 3rd Sept we, with help from the panel (and all your comments) pick our weekly winners and they move to the grand final. Look for battles and discussion about who should win on the main blog.

From there we pick our winners and allocate all the other prizes (the jury prizes can also be awarded to designs/individuals that didn’t make the Grand Final)

3. What can I win?

This will be added very soon on the prizes page. In total there are something like 10 different awards with great prizes that you can win totaling over €15k. We’ve also lined up a number of unique, can’t buy with your Mastercard experiences all aimed at giving you all exposure for your work and portfolios.

4. How do I enter?

You post your entry on to our entry blog.

5. Hang on didn’t you already do this? Why are you re-running OLP?

The decision for a new logo follows a recent branding project. You might have heard that we now primarily focus on apparel and our current mission is to become “the world’s creative apparel platform”. In the past six months we’ve completed extensive research both internally with staff, but also externally with shop-partners and potential customers. We learnt that the old tagline “You think it, we print it” no longer accurately describes Spreadshirt’s business, for the following reasons:

a) We’re not a high street printing copy shop

b) People don’t intuitively think shirts or apparel when they see “you think it, we print it”

c) The core of our business is our shop-partners, this tagline is focused more on the direct to consumer side of our business.

d) We’re much more than a printing copy shop. We’re a vehicle for self-expression and personal branding, which you can share through Spreadshops or our new Marketplace

To better explain what we do, and emphasize our USP’s we have a new tagline

your own label

which will replace “You think it, we print it”.

Put with the old logo you get this.

Spreadshirt - Your own label

Nice huh? But shown to someone new to our business, does it help explain what we do? Do the elements work well together? Is it intuitive to combine “label” with a fingerprint? We don’t think so. So we want to revisit it, but as a company built on showcasing your creativity, it only makes sense that we let you do it.

6. How long will you use the new logo?

Forever, hopefully. There is no plan to run OLP3, but stranger things have happened such as this, this or this . Several companies experiment with their logo. Burton for example used to redo their logo every year, but this isn’t the direction we are heading in. As a company we have changed a lot in the past year and half, more than doubling in size. We think we’re in a good position to brand ourselves now for the long-term. This is really about supporting our new tagline, overall brand direction and helping to explain what Spreadshirt offers to those people that don’t currently know us.

7. But I really like your old logo?

Yeah so do we. This was a really hard decision to make, we are also really fond of the fingerprint. As it says in the designers brief, should you wish to you can re-use it in your new logo drafts.

8. Are you just exploiting artists creativity?

We don’t think so. In this case, selecting the new logo for a community company like Spreadshirt should be an open and visible process. We want you to have designed something that is so integral to our business. This type of open innovation is becoming increasingly more common, read more about it here, here and here

All designs except the winning remain your intellectual property. We’ve loads of prizes that you can win, and we’re working on giving the winners as much publicity as possible.

There are also many other logo crowdsourcing projects which do this all the time, such as
wilogo or zooppa, but we want you guys, our community to design our logo because you know us best.

9. Can I win please?

Sure. Maximize your chances by reading the designers brief and rules before you submit.
