flag logo

flag logo 2

Design:

I feel that the original logo type works for this company; simple, clean, and profesional. Replacing the “i” with a flag pole and a shirt flag waving does a nice job with not veering away too far from the original Spreadshirt identity. This may be beneficial since re-association won’t become a big factor to old customers.

Concept:

A flag is a universal element used to represent an organization. The shirt flag is effective as an international symbol as it unites the branches world wide.

I’m aware of the imperfections on the logo type. I’ve just noticed it as I uploaded the design. I’ll make revisions if this is considered. Enjoy!

*Update*

The Flag-shirt logo is an effective concept and design for Spreadshirt. Throughout history, a flag is used to mark a territory, to claim ownership and discovery. Also it is used as a representation of organizations. Essentially, this concept encapsulates the whole Spreadshirt operations. Metaphorically, I see store owners as a united group of explorers traveling in a ship and Spreadshirt is the Country they represent. As they hit land and branch off, the explorer’s begin their journey, or the journey of
creating a unique product. When each explorer make their discoveries, the Spreadshirt Flag is stuck on the ground to claim owndership. Spreadshirt then supplies the explorers to help them flourish. Before long, The Spreadshirt Flag is waving high in every continent and have reached internationality. Spreadshirt needs explorers/store owners for fresh discoveries/ideas and store owners need spreadshirt to execute their ideas. The Spreadshirt flag represents this partnership.

Aside from metaphors, the Flag-shirt logo easily communicates internationality and immediately hints what the company is about. The re-design does a nice job making it work as a logo mark.

*credit goes to espy for the shirt elements. Thanks.

i like it, too! would it work with not replacing the “i” with the flag but placing the flag in front of the typo?

i agree that this is one of a few quirky ideas here. great!
however, seeing a “flag” on a pole, let alone a “shirt” flapping in the wind, suggest that this idea talks about a base camp dwellers asking to be rescued or please i’m unarmed don’t shoot!

sorry, i just don’t see what message it sending.

    elanz,

According to your comment, I can safely assume that you’ve discredited all logos with a flag element.

I’m reluctant to explain the following since I assumed that it is understood. But I feel that it may be benfefical to all of us that unnecesarry criticism can be avoided.

Our job as designers is to communicate a message. Unfortunately it can never be fully controlled. There are too many external variables involved in the human psyche and interpretations will differ. All we can do is maximize the range of the design’s message.

I feel that your interpretation of my design is one version that only a few will have. Having the word “spreadshirt” on there takes away any millitary connections. The brief I gave on my design is a stronger summary of its message.

With that said, hopefully you’ll have more meaningfull criticisms in the future, good luck.

    hi ortablaze,

i’m not here to criticize everyone. that’s not my job here. spreadshirt manages a brilliant, challenging OPEN contest so that everyone gives an input in design and constructive criticism. please don’t take it personally, what i said about your logo is only my personal comment here, that’s all.
you can accept it or ignore it. Simple.

You as a designer, you said it yourself in your comment that…”our job as a designer is to communicate a message”. ortablaze i don’t see clear message in your logo. just because you see a tshirt on a pole/stick doesn’t mean it’s a masterpiece. what i said before is that your logo is a quirky idea, and that you get merit for it.

i never said the word military, what i said is an expression and behavior of someone waving a t-shirt on a stick/pole, wanting to be rescued or in situation where they are unarmed and wants to get out of danger.

Furthermore, please don’t use the word “assume”. as the ASS in assume reflects the commentator.

i’m only putting in my two cents.

    peace and love.

Well, some people [in high places] sure liked it =) Peace, love or surrender, this one gives me a happy face! Good luck, fellow nominee.

    Hey Mark,

thanks for the kind words. I don’t really see the point in updating your design 4 days before the end, but if it helps you, sure, go ahead. But I do believe you’d be better off just scanning or photographing a shirt yourself, considering that there are only very small pieces of shirt in the image and they already have lighting applied to them. But hey, by all means, use them.

One suggestion for your logo: the bottom part of the flag pole really should be equal in width to the vertical strokes of the other letters. Right now, it looks as if the "i" were missing completely, because the flagpole is so narrow, darker than the type and the "h" and the "r" appear to be very close together.

    Good idea though!

    hey man,

thanks for the permission. I know it’s late for updates but might as well give it a shot. Haven’t had time the past weeks.

I intentionally made the flag pole not alligned to give it a more nature feel to it…imperfection. anyway, this new version is much better i think:
