First a re-cap of the main votes from the Innovativeness prize post (thanks for all the comments and suggestions!):

Most requested individuals were Laurent, Grafisimo & AlexanderWende

For single picks the following got mentions (there were tons more i’m just mentioning those names I heard a few times):

Universal Language - A whole new Spreadshirt language.
Think Spreadshirt - Another finalist, strong customization potential
Hands - For combining the idea of the shirt with handmade
Smart Update 1.4 - Using a flexible origami idea to build up your creations
Torn label - Customizable tear tag.
Own Label so Easy - Interchangeable panels building up the logo, a few of Pascalphillys were mentioned.

We’ll reveal the winner in the next few days, Frank is hard at work reviewing your picks, the shortlists and his memory of all the entries he’s seen so far.

Next Panel Prize on the list is the Branded Award.

Criteria for this would be:

a) a fresh idea,

b) a simple, clear & bold design

c) a little wit.

Who would you nominate for this one? Please don’t nominate your own unless you nominate your favourite of somebody else’s as well. Which entries have surprised and entertained you? Thanks!

I vote for “Love Tab” , but I think “Look What You’ve Created” deserves this prize (considering the criterias)
I submitted it to “Logopond” (one of logo designers’ favourite places) , and they put it to their featured gallery , here it is :
http://logopond.com/gallery/ (I changed “SpreadShirt” to a generic name “Self Apparel” there)

  3. 3 by Green | Oct 22nd, 2007 at 12:16 pm

Why do you give us that link Green ?
    - Because I believe a huge amount of logos (and finalists) submitted here wouldn’t succeed in Logopond . I mean you must see your logo amongst other kind of company’s logos for being able to see if it’s giving it’s message well or not .

  4. 4 by P.S. | Oct 22nd, 2007 at 1:41 pm

    I nominate my work:

    http://olp.spreadshirt.net/entries/2007/10/15/global-fun-spreading/

(As all my works it came to late here but already managed to get some fans. Especially Shirtnerd. Thank you Shirtnerd for your support. I know that you want to sleep with me as well as you said… ; ) … And possibly that is why you are that sweet with commenting my work… But I am happy actually about your true and really intensive attention and sympathy instead… You moved me to poetry… )

Also I would like to nominate ”Your Own Look” as totaly finished and I would say ULTIMATE concept of all ROUND SHAPE-CIRCLE-HOLE-LABELS designs.

    http://olp.spreadshirt.net/entries/2007/10/15/your-own-look/

Unfortulately it is only about those requests from this contest… I mean it only talk about ”Your Own Label” so I am not sure is it qualified for this prize? Well… It wasn’t qualified for Spread Shirt - Your Own Label so… I don’t know… But I REALLY THINK that it is..

    1) a fresh, inovative idea,

    2) a simple, clear & bold design

    3) a little wit.

So… Maybe, finaly someone will agree with me after all… No matter to presumptions… I really hope so… Cause… I did it with lot of passion and lot of an effort to find and realize the ultimate concepts.

  5. 5 by adam | Oct 22nd, 2007 at 2:09 pm

You’re supposed to nominate one of somebody else’s as well ps ;)

  6. 6 by P.S. | Oct 22nd, 2007 at 2:15 pm

    ok…

    I’ll do my best… ; )

    As usual…

  7. 7 by adam | Oct 22nd, 2007 at 4:38 pm

I’ll throw my suggestion in again, Nelsons Superheroes series. Original, witty, bold and a constant source of entertainment throughout the contest. http://olp.spreadshirt.net/entries/author/nelson

  8. 8 by ikou | Oct 22nd, 2007 at 5:01 pm

if principal criteria is entertainement, im agree with you, nelson’s works!

  9. 9 by Noreia | Oct 22nd, 2007 at 5:17 pm

In my eyes one of those two would deserve it pretty well:

    http://olp.spreadshirt.net/entries/2007/10/12/soeasy-trinity_w7_version2/
    http://olp.spreadshirt.net/entries/2007/09/28/logo-2/

both super fresh ideas, clean designs and a great stories behind it!
    Good luck…

I nominate one of my favorites from week 7:

    http://olp.spreadshirt.net/entries/2007/10/11/spreaded-wings-of-freedom/

Considering the criterias I can think of a couple of mine that I could nominate but these two come to mind. I would love to have these evaluated by branded, even just for the sake of it:

    http://olp.spreadshirt.net/entries/2007/10/03/spread-your-label-2/

    OR

    http://olp.spreadshirt.net/entries/2007/10/14/torn-label/

hmm how come my comments aren’t showing up

  13. 13 by calva | Oct 22nd, 2007 at 5:49 pm

I would vote for the famous hands from japasa.

It’s very different, fresh and a new idea!

  14. 14 by jeffersonb | Oct 22nd, 2007 at 5:49 pm
  15. 15 by adam | Oct 22nd, 2007 at 6:02 pm

for some reason they were getting spammed, I unspammed one now sorry for the delay!

  16. 16 by Nelson | Oct 22nd, 2007 at 7:19 pm

    Hi

The intention of my series of superheroes goes beyond of a simple
    image of mark.

The idea always has been to reflect the objective of Spreadshirt, a
group of people who fights so that its company arrives at all the
people, but making the things affluent, even giving but importance to
    the users.

Reflecting it with personages is for obtaining parallel histories to
which it is happening in the world and within the community of
spreadshirt, the relation of these two factors would have been
wonderful. The user of spreadshirt would be reflected in many things,
increasing his loyalty to the mark and increasing the reputation of
spreadshirt. Another factor would be the clear difference and point to
favor with respect to other companies that are dedicated to just like
    spreadshirt.

The logo is a shield that only reflected everything what includes
spreadshirt, a great group, a great community, a great store of
    stores…

I had liked to see working my idea and to operate to the
maximum the potential that sincerely I believe that she had.

I had liked to explain but things, but my english limits to me

  17. 17 by shirtnerd | Oct 22nd, 2007 at 7:48 pm

I would have nominated all the works of my special friend P.S. but someone else was faster ;)

my alltime favourite is “playfully different” by Elanz, but for some obscure reason all his entries seem to have disappeared… nevertheless the preview is still around:
    http://olp.spreadshirt.net/entries/wp-content/uploads/2007/09/dirtybirds_preview.jpg
the basic idea is to use the traces of a bird splat as a mark of ownership :D

if the branded-panel liked the colorlogo by namelok, I can’t help recommending to have a look at my hyperdimensional colorshirt chart:
    http://olp.spreadshirt.net/entries/2007/10/15/hyperspace/
you can’t deny the stunning mathematical beauty of shirt-space, can you?
okay … I realize this is a design competition and not an imagination competition, but you could at least award me a geek-prize or something ;)

  18. 18 by jeffersonb | Oct 22nd, 2007 at 8:18 pm

    @ Green:
Great link. Very inspirational logo creations. Congratulations on getting featured on the site.

  19. 19 by Trium | Oct 22nd, 2007 at 8:19 pm

Agreeing with noria I think hands by japasa and soeasy by pascalphilly are great candidates for this! As to the clear design I would say
    http://olp.spreadshirt.net/entries/2007/10/12/soeasy-trinity_w7_version2/
has some advantages as to readability of the logo (also in small sizes).
Acutally I was pretty surprised to not see soeasy in the finalists, so I definitely vote for this one here: It was present for many weeks in the contest in many variations and it is still one of my favorites.
But good luck also to everyone else!

  20. 20 by Green | Oct 22nd, 2007 at 10:08 pm

    thanks jeffersonb ;)

  21. 21 by adam | Oct 23rd, 2007 at 8:25 am

Elanz asked for his entries to be removed, so mystery on that one is solved. Thanks for your tips guys, keep them coming!

  23. 23 by Marcson | Oct 23rd, 2007 at 10:53 am

I think the following design could have be a finalist!
    http://olp.spreadshirt.net/entries/wp-content/uploads/2007/10/spread_contest2.jpg
It’s better than some of the design, which are in the finals now!

  24. 24 by legofish | Oct 23rd, 2007 at 3:57 pm

might sound a little strange, but I think “trust moustache” by mootsie fits the criteria for the branded prize really well. It has a bold and brandable logomark, and it definitely has a lot of wit. That would be my choice.

  25. 25 by P.S. | Oct 23rd, 2007 at 7:59 pm

    Ok,
First of all I have to pint that I will not deal with anything but those 3 references and requests of the “SS - Your Own Label” suggestions. I will not regard at the sparkling artsy-fartsy execution which I find quite irrelevant here. For example some people including me didn’t had time for popular shiny customization of their designs which are in many cases much better than some sparkling finalists.
Second. Many have already forgot about what was this all about, Forgeting the name and slogan with their own request that should be presented in graphic proposals as much as it’s possible… Actually I think that was the idea of this new “Your Own Label” slogan promotion through new visual identity.

I have search through ALL POSTED ENTRIES AGAIN… Since week 1 and below are the most inovative solutions according to me and mostly they have been forgoten and misplaced with those sparkling emptinesses from Grand Finalist section.

    “Spreddy Shirtdawg” by netwight
    http://olp.spreadshirt.net/entries/2007/09/22/spreddy-shirtdawg/
This idea was so great. Even the tongue appeared as red prominent, spreadable label… It was fresh idea, It was bold deffinately and quite witty I would say… : p Well maybe it was too witty… But great one anyway!

“Create your own label..?!” by AlexanderWende
    http://olp.spreadshirt.net/entries/2007/09/22/create-your-own-label/
Nice fusion… Not so bad idea… you have Shirt, labels, pencil… Yet, not bold enough.

I would also like to mention two more of AlexanderWende.
    “Say hello to Y.O.L.”
Very good and cute inovative idea, yet too comic and not enough serious as I think… ; )
Alexanders’s “Growing” I don’t find too appropriate either to special… (It’s so so. Too organic… like biology pic or something and yet not talking much about Spreading the shirt, and talking about spreading labels generaly…Not my own label…)
But deffinately AlexanderWende is good designer worth of mentioning…

    “SuperNEW!” by MuamerDESIGN
    http://olp.spreadshirt.net/entries/2007/09/28/supernew/
Really great idea. Very comprehensive and strong idea… Unfortunatelly it really does appear threatening… But if I was “in charge” I would consider this proposal anyway. At the end… So what if those mosquitos spread the virus with their stings? The LABELaria is not deadly disease. It could be considered as beLOVEDitis kind of illness. (I found this work better than all the Grand Finalists as well.)
This one will be my nomination for this prize if I have to choose one form the others as well. But I think that this one have it’s own oversights as well in it’s allurement.

    “your own” by ulahts.
    http://olp.spreadshirt.net/entries/2007/09/25/your-own/
Interesting idea yet somehow that pen remind too much for writting and literature. Too bad. I like this one actually and I think it’s one of the better here.

“Look What You’ve Created” by Green.
    http://olp.spreadshirt.net/entries/2007/10/08/look-what-youve-created/
Quite innovative and suggestive… Unfortunatelly not so friendly and a bit spooky… I’ve been expecting that Green will made changes and improve this quite good idea.

    “Creative side” by grafismo.
    http://olp.spreadshirt.net/entries/2007/10/08/creative-side/
I love this idea. A lot. Unfortunatelly grafismo give up of improving it disappointed with lack of positive reactions. : ( Too bad… Well… I gues he wasn’t in the “I clap to you - you clap to me - chat gang” as well…

    “Puzzle” by Moon Palace.
    http://olp.spreadshirt.net/entries/2007/10/10/puzzle-3/
Finally someone succeeded to realise this puzzle-like logo what was the old suggestion of Adam as I remember in some of his examples of where we could go with ideas… I found this solution very decent. Almost good enough… Also better than many Grand Finalists…

Many were talking about Grand Finalists yet not too much. I guess it’s mostly because people don’t have strength to analyse one by one of those not so good solutions. I know that is case with me. I mean all of them have something good… But NON have all. And most of them don’t have many essential features as the copmplete answer to the meanings of this Spread Shirt-YOUR OWN LABEL and it’s requests…
Some have great idea but not much answering the SS-YOL with all it’s meanings. Some have answered almost good enough to the SS/YOL meanings yet they are nothing special with their ideas and not bold enough. Some are too funny, the other are too boring. Some are even not worth of serious analyses yet they are among Grand Finalist as well. Some are astonishingly simple, but simple too much! Some are very comprehensive yet too complicated… or without strong visual stand alone influence. Anyway, I haven’t change my mind… and I see that as time goes by many people agree with me that…
The choices are not complete, not enough bold yet enough comprehensive… Not giving the all answers to the request…. In three words…
    NOT GOOD ENOUGH!

I will isolate one from this group and comment it because I actually find it more comprehensive than others.

    “LabelHeads” by legofish.
    http://olp.spreadshirt.net/entries/2007/09/14/labelheads/
Deffinately innovative approach and it describes Spread Shirt - Your Own Label well… Unfortunatelly this is more the illustration than a stand alone logo lacking with it’s simple strong impression. Also I consider it more funny that it should be. Customization could be funny game yet it shouldn’t be one of the crucial arguments. The typography is not so bad… Yet I wouldn’t rely just on it as Mit/Aachen Professor and Open Innovation/Crowdsourcing expert Dr Frank Piller suggested to Spead Shirt…

    So that was my contribution.
I don’t know why I did it. I mean… I think I did quite a good job with some of mine designs… yet not many came to approve it or disapprove it… Actually… “All I got was this lousy…” T-shirtnerd ; )
Either I came too late… Either I really had to be one of the chit/chat-members to get enough attention… The one is for sure…
I did my best and it is the time for me to take a rest…
Meanwhile I have even get ill… and have highfever while finishing this comprehensive report…

Thank you Adam, I think I’ve kept my promise.

Thanks to everyone else as well..
No matter were they finding my solutions good enough (at least for their comments) and giving their explanations for affirmative or non affirmative.

I wish you all the luck…
And even if I have pointed that I don’t find neither single one totaly comprehensive solution here, I have to repeate that I have found many good designers here… with many interesting approaches…
Unfortunately not many gives the all suggestivity that is required here.

Therefor I will nominate myself again… This time with two of my works that I found most innovative and comprehensive… Deffinately qualified for at least this prize.

    1. “Your Own Look” - Totaly comprehensive and authentic idea. ULTIMATE ANSWER TO YOUR OWN LABEL. (Which was all this was about actually. Promoting the new slogan if somebody have forgot.)
    http://olp.spreadshirt.net/entries/2007/10/15/your-own-look/

    2. “GLobal Fun Spreading” - Maybe not much innovative as “Your Own Look”, but deffinately completely comprehensive and interesting new idea about this fun and creative community called Spread Shirt.
    http://olp.spreadshirt.net/entries/2007/10/15/global-fun-spreading/

    3. “my passion” - Maybe not bold enough visually but deffinately bold enough by it’s meanings and approach… I advise you not to be lazy and read the additional text. We are not always smart as we think we are… I claim that this graphic design is the most copleted with it’s suggestion about what all of this should really be… And on quite original idea of opening your hear with label of your own… As I said before…
“…Dear friend, here, at this place, you can create whatever you like. Anything you wish. Just open your heart… and there’s
blank label waiting just for YOU.”
    http://olp.spreadshirt.net/entries/2007/10/10/my-passion/

Now I go to heal my cold and drink some tee…

If any of you change his/hers mind you can leave your comments and impressions… Byeee~

Why did you remove my post? Do you have any idea how much time I’ve spent analysing the all entries since the week one so I could point my right other nominated as I promised to Adam?

  27. 27 by adam | Oct 23rd, 2007 at 8:29 pm

Removed your post? Comment you mean? Which comment? Maybe it got spammed, i’ll have a look.

Found it, its back where it should have been now, I guess the number of links pushed it into spam category sorry for delay.

    thanks P.S. , I actually made some changes on it , but I think it’s still not so friendly . . .

many graphic logos in this category branded :)

for the design colors and graphic solution
    http://olp.spreadshirt.net/entries/2007/10/05/play-with-the-forms/

    http://olp.spreadshirt.net/entries/2007/09/14/labelheads/

if principal criteria is entertainement :) this puzzle-fish solution logo is fun and fits to the brief in many criterias .
    http://olp.spreadshirt.net/entries/2007/10/09/fish-shirt/#more-10417

    and also

    http://olp.spreadshirt.net/entries/2007/10/09/superheroes-pollutionman-counter-attack/#comment-5791
    very fun concept.

  31. 31 by P.S. | Oct 24th, 2007 at 2:11 pm

Too funny I think. All of them. How could possibly the principal criteria would be entertainment? Being witty is important, but lot of fun? Entertainment? Think again. I actually find one of those amusing works quite comprehensive (label heads) and I have mentioned it in my previous post as one that was close to giving the all needed answers to Spread Shirt - Your Own Label, yet they are too illustrative, not enough bold, not too good as a stand alone icon, and too joyful as I think. And this is one of the best in my oppinion… And not just mine as I can see…
I have no doubts that there are seriously inovative and good designers behind these works… Unfortunatelly many didn’t even gave the answer entirely to consept request. I repeate, don’t even have to look entire title Spread Shirt - Your Own Label… Yout Own Label is enough to see what I’m saying…

Simple quick test. Search for the entries that have answered to these 3 words with it’s suggestivity:

    YOUR OWN LABEL

Only very few are close (yet not enough) to this basic answer to the request of expressing this slogan. And even them didn’t make the RIGHT BALANCE… And not even one gives the entire answers…

Maybe I was wrong thinking that this is all about finding a new visual identity that will express new slogan and push forward this idea of Spread Shirt - Your Own Label?
Maybe I get this project too seriously…
Maybe all of this was actually mainly about having some fun and giving some publicity through animating graphic designers…

But If I wasn’t wrong and this really WAS about finding the new visial identity to Spread Shirt that will express new slogan… Your Own Label… Not even one of those Grand Finalist gave the answers.
And that is quite obvious. Try my quick test and see for yourself.

  32. 32 by azzaoui | Oct 24th, 2007 at 7:58 pm

well ps i do not agree with your vision :

I mean these logo are not only fun or hilarious projects they are real solutions for the spreadshirt logo some logos seems to be misunderstood :)

see all visual identities and ask yourself one question : how can it be (the logo) noticed and appreciated who is buying teeshirts i mean young people and what is it made for :
    fun and communication …

so it’s really important to see all the points for this logo not only the design aspect or brief or business

for example some of these solutions are really adaptable and speak directly to young people minds they are creative and can offer many marketing solutions for example label head and puzzle fish can be animated.
more dynamic than a simple logo.

we have to traduce the slogan your own label and even see it in its media world and environment (tv internet magazines ) how can spreadshirt be a creative company without considering a reflexion on all aspect i think they really appreciate all the works and it’s really difficult to choose the right one :).

that’s why all the works presented here have there quality and default the work now is to choose wich direction to take for spreadshirt future or marketing strategies. i hope you undersatnd my english .

  33. 33 by P.S. | Oct 25th, 2007 at 1:02 am

Of course you wont agree. That is expected. But the truth exist no matter to do you or do I agree with it or even see it.
Also I never said that any of those logos is ONLY fun or hilarious. Actually I give my credits to headlabel… But it is quite obvious that they are not enough comprehensive and even not well balanced with funny approach. At the end, it should be witty not funny. That is quite different.

I agree with you that the very requests from designers brief and general aspects of graphic design and business should not be the only important things to consider…
Yet… That is not problem here…
Actually quite opposite. I claim that not even one solution gave simple answer to all Spread Shirt - Your Own Label meaning requests. Not even just Your Own Label… which is why they made this contest after all. To visualy express the new powerful slogan.

I never doubt in participators creativity, and I agree that many presented works have their quality and yes.. many prove that their solutions can be adobtable somehow yet those solutions are just NOT COMPLETE. There is always something missing… And in MANY cases even the simple answer to new the slogan is missing.
I don’t mind animations but that wont make logo better and comprehensive.

I am not sure have I understood all but I am sure you haven’t ment to ”traduce” the new slogan… ; ) But that is what will actually happen with the new logo if it failed and appear less good than the old fingerprint. I guess you wanted to say… introduce the new slogan Your Own Label… but that is exactly where I think the problem is… With all Grand Finalists. Like there isn’t any new slogan to push forward!

And I disagree that Spread Shirt is now picking the direction where to go. I think they know quite well their direction and they are just picking new visual identity to synchronize it with the new powerful slogan.

And a little more to say for myself when nobody else want. My ”Your Own Look” work is not only completely comprehensive visual identity that represents the new slogan YOUR OWN LABEL…

It is visual identity - LITERALLY.
