Me at Bill G’s place

Its been a really cool few days exploring the city. We’re out of the action a little bit in the deep south of Boston. Our area is “interesting” there are alot of activities on offer, the most common being mugging, stabbing, narcotics and even if your lucky enough the litte more exotic “death”. But we’re trying to blend in. Today we arrived in Greensburg, PA to see Spreadshirts US HQ. Here are a few pics:

The reception area, apparently they allow walk-in orders here

Their entertainment area, table football, air hockey and table tennis? No fair :(

In Boston we attended the World Conference on Mass Customization & Personalization. We met lots of interesting people like the reprap guys, saw some legends of this area like Marvin Mintsky and Eric Von Hippel. Ami and I gave one talk about Spreadshirt and what happens to an industry when every product can be unique and made on demand like Spreadshirts. We really wanted to get the Open Logo Project in the presentation as an example of how we like to work with our community and bring in ideas from outside. We just about made it, and spent the final minute or so showing some of your work. Congratulations to Bean, Mootsie, Legofish and Nelson your work just got exhibited at the geek meccha of MIT. Here is the slide:

Shame we couldn’t show more of your entries but quite a few people asked about the contest after the presentation so that was really cool. Now we’re working on who should make it to the finals this week, and producing a little wildcards shortlist which we hope to announce tomorrow. Here is a timetable of the contest wrapup:

Later Today - Announce week six finalist(s) heading to the grand final

Friday 12th - Announce wildcards shortlist

Saturday 13th - Ami and I heading back to the US Germany so it will probably be quiet here

Sunday 14th - Contest closes at mid-night. We’ll approve all remaining entries then post to announce that its over!

Monday 15th - We’ll reveal the wk7 shortlist in the morning. In the afternoon we’ll reveal both who from wk7 and who from the wildcard shortlist is in the final. So we’ll have all the grand finalists revealed by Monday evening.

Tuesday 16th - Voting begins. We want your opinion so we’ll have some sort of voting available for you, though we’re not exactly sure yet how it will work.

16th - 23rd - For the next seven days we discuss how the voting is going, internal discussion then review with you and the panel who you think should win each panel prize.

Voting will last approx one week. Then we’ll announce the winner at somepoint around the 25th/26th October.

Its going to be really exciting, and really busy around here. Stay tuned….

It would be great if spreadshirt can do a documentary (pdf or a cool printobject like a small booklet or something or a big one lol) with this competition in it (perhaps with the first olp too?) for all participants (Don’t know how many around here) if it is ok with the graphicdesigner around here…

Just an idea thats spinning around in my head the last weeks ;)

I love the idea to make a book out of this. We’re talking about it at the moment, not too sure about the load of work this would mean, but let’s see.
To be honest I’m also not sure if we can put up a shortlist on monday morning … just thinking of jetlag - and besides that the amount of logos that are waiting to be published, commented, sighted.
