Here is this weeks shortlist, 6 designs were specially selected this week. A slight drop from last weeks 7, perhaps an indicator that we’re again getting a better idea what we want, or we’re getting a little fatigued from all the tag entries that are coming in and we’re looking for something that we’ve not seen already. Ami is preparing a little post about that for tomorrow (hopefully).
Find out who made it in the full post.
A few callouts, great work by Alexanderwende on Against Nudity, You are the key & Customize Clothing. Really nice ideas, tons of imagination and expertly presented. We weren’t totally sold on the man, and not 100% on the concept but nevertheless very strong ideas. Customize Clothing is fantastic, but maybe over-detailed and the zip confused a few people internally.
Inadimova is at it again with Label tee . This we liked a lot, the stacking, font, really everything about it. But its the core shape from think_spreadshirt update so feels more like a version of that design, and something we could use to develop that than a standalone entry we could also have in the Grand Final.
Own label. Felt like the lovechild of a few previous designs (including a heavily influenced version of Bulgrins shirt), but still a very nice execution. We’re discussing the authenticity of some of the design elements privately with the relevant parties and we can all do so publicly, but for now its not shortlist worthy anyway. Still its a good idea but we need convincing it isn’t too complicated to work in all the scenarios of the briefing. Some more usage examples might support this.
Here are the 6 beauties on this weeks shortlist and under consideration for a Grand Final spot:
1. Bubble Label by ikou
Strong idea, lots of potential, has some similarities in terms of concept to think_spreadshirt update. But its bold and interesting. Having the objects calling out is a really nice touch:
2. The rhyming “label with hands on the rand like shirt waistband” by Japasa
Clean, professional but still playful as it builds upon his popular hands ideas. The layout concept is interesting, the design could play on that more but even with normal layout choice we like the simplicity of this alot.
3. Mannequins *Updated* by Pascalphilly
I think this one got the fun and interesting vote. Nice idea and execution, very distinctive design. Question is how far this can evolve. But that’s something we can discuss more now its a shortlisted entry.
4. Click Shirt by Nieke
There’s been a few other designs following this theme, credit to Jonasbmf for something similar. But we think this is the best executed. The icon helps you get the idea that we’re talking about computers here. We really like the circular shape and think the t-shirt shape could even be substituted for other products/icons but the core would still be there and distinctive enough.
Interesting design, sticker angle we haven’t seen yet as far as we can remember. Containing no shirts or tags probably went in this designs favour as it offered something a little different. Its well presented and realized and we (and the panel) need to think a little more about the sticker idea/its applicability and potential usages.
Congrats Green, two shortlisted entries, nice work! We like this ones strong shape and the style of the shirt. We also think we could bring more options into this and use the other coloured circles with different products etc to turn it into more of a series but still keeping that same stacked circles design. Another one to think more about.
Congrats to you all! We’ll announce who makes the shortlist on Thursday afternoon/evening.

Can I get some feedback from Spreadshirt on my entry./
Congratulations!
congrats to all! Especially Japasa, see what I am saying? dont give up! You’re back in the game and now I got a problem since you wanted to vote for mine otherwise ;)
congrats to everybody!!!! it’s pretty hard to be selected, isn’t it? lol, i’ll try again ^^
@ Jebs: hellz yea. my iShirt poster didn’t even get a callout :(
thank you… :) I also congratulate all you! I think in this week it was really hard than before because another logos are also very nice and excellent. Therefore I could not say who are in shortlist.
@pascalphilly: hehe, you are right. ;)
@Jebs: Don’t give up Jebs, you’ve had some nice entries Lets do it together being my favourite http://olp.spreadshirt.net/entries/2007/09/14/lets-do-it-together/
@jeffersonb: Yeah nice entry, the more time I spend with it the more I like it and the ishirt is great :)
I think maybe this is the problem, at the start you just find the red dot a little confusing, and maybe distracting. Once you see all the different usage options it begins to play a role, (I really the inspire poster and how the circle is used there, or the subtle uses like the red in the question mark) but i’m still not convinced about the two elements, they aren’t interplaying like in for example Bubble Logo. Perhaps that would improve it, but that depends if you want to take it further, as this is just my opinion and if others internally aren’t into the concept it might still not get enough votes :(
But you have talent so lets see where you can take it in the upcoming weeks.
Congrats to all selected logos.
I don’t know if I’ll try again……
(Erf… shit !)
compliments! this is becoming a constructive competition much, very compliments to all
thank you guys for selecting both of my works on the shortlist ;
I think it was a hard decision for you , because there were lots of great logos this week .
Congratulations to the w5k’s shortlist!! But just a CONSTRUCTIVE critic to the judge this 5th week: WHERE are CEO Jana thinks about OLP…? I mean:
————–
“We’ve seen enough hang tags :) If your going to do tag ideas though, maybe we could explore the tags inside the neck idea further.
- Feel free to be more artistic, and a less literal with your designs (ie they don’t have to include shirt, tag, etc)
- Prefers stacked (one above the other) Spread & Shirt, with more emphasis given to Spread. Our research has suggested that people can best understand it that way.
- Feel free to go a little crazier, surprise us a little more.”
——————
I can not find any of those Jana recommendations in any of 5th week chosen designs (except maybe one of the designs). Regards.
Thank you grafismo for your comment, it’s exactely what I mean today when I see the selection…
@Laurent, Grafismo
seen your comments guys, reply coming very soon………………..:)
An older comment I added last night got spammed for some reason, its back up now further up the thread. As for the shortlist, I think all of Janas comments hold true its just if the designs aren’t there we can’t select them.
As for the tag comment, theres not one entry on the shortlist involving a tag, I only saw one or two designs trying the inside neck tag approach but I guess nothing that really pushed that concept yet.
As for less literal Pacalphillys, Japasas and greens sticker are less literal, same themes for sure but a different way of representing them which isn’t so immediately apparent. We’re definetely still into this less literal approach, to provide variation from the main themes. I think Ami is working on a post that will explore it a little further which we’re hoping to have up tomorrow.
An for the go crazy:
If something really out there comes up like Beans Universal Language we jump all over it, we’ve given that design plenty of love its just maybe there wasn’t a really off the wall idea this time that jumped out at us.
Blank Seal by Laurents was nice http://olp.spreadshirt.net/entries/2007/09/28/blank-seal/, that also came pretty close as was SuperNew by Muamer http://olp.spreadshirt.net/entries/category/wk5picks/ which was a great design, but sort of doesn’t feel quite ready yet (as the comments suggested) and its still a little close to our competitor Shirtcity http://www.shirtcity.com/index.php?land=DE
I hope that clears it up a bit, if you think theres a really obvious design that nails Janas suggestions that we’ve overlooked feel free to suggest it and we can discuss it.
Oh and i forgot Tick by Pascalphilly http://olp.spreadshirt.net/entries/2007/10/01/tick/
Jana wasn’t best pleased that idea didn’t make the list, we should probably have shortlisted it for being an edgier concept even though it had less votes, we feel bad that we overlooked it. Keeping everybody happy internally is pretty hard, nevermind keeping it clear for you guys as well :(
Hi Adam, thanks for your answer but I’m still pretty confused about wich design line we must research because I see more and more tags, shirts, single-line spreadshirt phrases or compositions and so on at current picks so I think sincerely they don´t hold with any Jana’s great suggestions (under a designer or business point of view). I think than it should be up there a fw designs or initial roughs more interesting (for me) than also will match Jena’s clever suggestions not just from w5k entries. You have 1000 designs over the table I recognize is a hard work to find them. Regards …and sorry for my english. Hope you understand my humble point of view.
@ adam: Thank you! that’s motivating, i didn’t read you answer until now, but that gives me a boost. Anyway, the logo you prefered is exactly the contrary of my opinion, it’s one of my really so-so logos IMO, lol, that’s subjective, isn’t it? ;-)
Well said grafismo. I would like to see a youtube video by Adam for this weeks tips. Adam is the lead graphic designer correct? I’ve seen some of his ideas, but more would be good to get into your mind for what you see as a good fit. I saw some great designs that were not picked. I am frustrated that the same design idea was picked twice (although I think the tshirt/hands logo should have been a grand finalist the first time anyhow).
Thanks adam for your answer.
I don’t see the resemblance with Shirtcity, but it’s your choice.
I’ll work again ;-)
Feel free to share which were the great designs that weren’t picked Confused, we’ll happily discuss them. Nope I’m Spreadshirts Industry Ambassador, I work on all things related to the Brand and Community. Manuel is the head of Graphics http://olp.spreadshirt.net/wordpress/2007/09/27/concept-execution-evolution/
The youtube video is a nice idea, lets see what he says :)
Hi Adam, now I see Manuel’s name under his picture - thanks for clearing that up. Well I tried to find some examples, but really I just came up with the one’s of a designer I know that entered some logos for your contest. What do you think of these? I especially like the first two…
http://olp.spreadshirt.net/entries/wp-content/uploads/2007/09/hickinbotham_logo2.jpg
http://olp.spreadshirt.net/entries/2007/09/26/worn-thoughts/#more-6169
http://olp.spreadshirt.net/entries/wp-content/uploads/2007/09/hickinbotham_logo3.jpg
And no I’m not really him in disguise and he didn’t ask me to post this, I really am curious as to why his didn’t make it and some others did. Thanks!
Hello Adam, I saw the Wildcards addition, very nice - but you promised to discuss the picks I thought should have made it on the shortlist for week 5, like this one http://olp.spreadshirt.net/entries/2007/09/27/the-winner/
See I’m being moderated now, but let me know and I’ll pass along the comments. Remember we are all you future customers too so don’t forget with all the business of week six please.
Yeah sorry more than 2 links means the comment gets moderated, i’ll make it more flexible. Hum, while I don’t see so much potential in “the winner” (its less striking, flexible, the s in a shirt idea we had already in some other designs like http://olp.spreadshirt.net/entries/2007/08/28/s-shirt/, http://olp.spreadshirt.net/entries/2007/09/07/your-own-logo/, “worn thoughts” is very cool and should definetely have been a wk5 picks. It builds on the idea that we’ve shown that we like - “wear what your thinking” which is why Bubble Label made the shortlist. I guess this one slipped under the radar a little bit.
If we’re comparing it to Bubble Label I’d say its less flexible (look at all the different arrangements that design offers), and it doesn’t seperate Spread and shirt. It is a nice design though. Please help us find these and comment the designs you like, if something is popular with your we’ll make it a pick for the week and it will help others find it.
Okay thanks for the feedback Adam, I will pass the comments along and see if he can be convinced to try again with ‘worn thoughts’ and make it more generic etc.
