Spreadlabel is an entry thats proved popular with us and the panel, and featured in many shall we put it in the grand final discussions. Yesterday the hard working ulahts submitted a new version, and now we’re a little torn. Tell us your opinion…

Here is the old:

Here is v.2:

Here are the comments so far on the new version:

the compination and idea is good, only the typo is inappropriate

The former execution is much better anyway, please just do not attach it to a letter, that looks pretty unprofessional.

Actually i believe that as a stand alone icon looks pretty neat but in this way the message is well received. I will let this as a proposal. :)

i prefer the old one too …it had this butterfly-look. like a feather…
    and free like the mind.
and now it has been brutally chained to the typo. poor little label !

    the old logo was better…

One definite plus point is the separation of Spread & Shirt through colour. I actually quite like having it attached to Spreadshirt. Whilst the new version loses some flexibility with the shirt chained maybe it could be softened and linked with string instead?

What are the good and bad points of the new version for you? Which do you prefer?

    old logo is better!

I can try and tie the symbol with the type through a string somehow. I think it works well in both ways, but the way it is attached must be reworked a bit.
I’ll get soon an update. :)

Oh, and yes, separating “spread” and “shirt” through the colors is pretty neat. :)
I think that should be in any final choice. ;)

i prefer the old one too, really, (but the new one is not bad either)

Old one for me – much freer and neater. In the first one I like the smiley effect, which is lost in the second.

It may help if the logo curved towards us, rather than away, as at the moment it doesn’t match the shadow.

Well, i rather keep it the way it is now and adapt the shaddow…if needed i can arrange a new improved version to match the shaddow, keeping the same format like it is V.1 now.

Sorry, should’ve been a bit clearer – I think it would help the look of the logo if it curved towards us rather than away, as it will draw your eye into the logo better, and lead your eye along the ’spreadshirt’ text. Right now it pulls in two directions: starting on the fussy bit (where the logo joins the ’s’) and can’t decide whether to follow the logo out to the ‘t’ part or to follow the text. The fact the shadow doesn’t match is an incidental, really.

    Hope that makes more sense.

I don’t know why, but my comment was put at the top, not at the bottom of this post.

    I got it now! :)
My opinion is the fact the T-Shirt will be in front and the label behind tied to the “s” letter would give too much impression of space, unballancing the whole composition, but, hey, let’s see it first. :)
let’s see what i can do

As with many I like the old one better so far.

    comment gremlins I assume ;)

I checked in with Christophe of Computerlove who had this to say about the new version:

“Yes, this one seems more close to a final result. Its more bold and energic too. I prefer this version.”

I’m pro, but would switch the chain to something less heavy ie string, cord whatever….

  14. 14 by ulahts | Sep 12th, 2007 at 12:42 pm

Sure, i will update this as well :)

  15. 15 by ami | Sep 12th, 2007 at 12:45 pm

I like that it got more “compact” - i found the old logo a little bit too l o n g and not harmonic enough (altough very flexible and dynamic)
I also like the color combination and the connection between label/shirt and spread&shirt .. also the position of the tagline is much better.

so in general I think this is an improvement. however I’m not a fan of attaching the logo with a “chain” or something to a latter.

Like dazzler, It ‘ll be better if the logo curved towards us, rather than away. i like the new type too with the 2 colors :)

The label squeezed to the letters in the new version looks unprofessional. Too close, to forced to fit somehow. Additionally I see a “chained” character as Ami mentioned.
Please stay with the great first version or typographers gonna cry.

concerning the 3 logos updated, for me that’s obvious: the 3 old ones were far better!!! It’s always the problem when you want to add something, often, and here, those addons are not necessary, it becomes heavier, and too complicate, the 3 old ones are fresher, classy, and perfect for their simplicity, IMO ;-)
