Every week we’ll have a little something called “schwag friday”, its where we talk more about the panel prizes up for grabs here at the OLP. Each week a different panel prize will be revealed and discussed, and hopefully you’ll share your nominations for it as well. Today we reveal our great panelists and buddies Computerlove and the “Computerlove Collaboration Prize”. With this prize we want to honor collaboration and award design teams.

The aim of these prizes is to find ways of rewarding more of you for your contribution to the contest. Only one design will eventually become our new logo, but on the way tons of you will provide help and guidance that helps us get there. Whether its from voting and commenting, which helps the designers in refining new version of their logos, or an off the wall idea that inspires the next great entry. So we asked the panel to pick a focus area based on their interests and they can award an individual or a design that fits that.

This week its the “Computerlove Collaboration award”. For those of you not currently using Computerlove its is a community of digital artists, designers and photographers. You can hunt for inspiration/trends, find design jobs, meet creative people and share your portfolio.

Because of the networking and collaboration angle of the site, we wanted to reward the same thing here at OLP. How can you win it? Well the clue was in the award title, you’ll have to work with others. Usually the idea of teams either excites or horrifies, depending on which is you we’ve a different paragraph for you below….

If you like teams read here, if you hate teams skip to the next paragraph

Sharings caring, you love to work with others because you can show them just how great you are, like one big happy family. Everyone brings a fresh perspective, knowledge skills and experience. Like lemmings, but in a more positive, less cliff diving sense. Not the OLP will reward you for partner up into a design team and working on or develop an existing concept together. Your producing great stuff alone, now go prove great minds really do think alike.

Team haters, read this one

Teams, just like working on your own - only worse! There’s no i in team, and usually no conflict, compromise and confusion in i, yet somehow team has the higher social standing. Go figure? Anyway now the necessary evil of office and family life can invade your single-minded OLP time, thanks to our Computerlove “Collaboration” award. Here’s the drill - fake niceness in order to win prizes, then when you win do the victory dance and remind your team mates that they would be nothing without you. Lose and at least you have someone else to take, sorry “shoulder” the blame. Go on, be hospitable, share your genius with lesser mortals.

The award’s prize is a Nintendo DS gift set. Why the DS? Well, it’s a great console for playing together. And when you meet your friends and team members in live, you can easily set up a wifi game and compete each other. We have a nice budget for this - so if the design team is two of you you’ll win a DS each plus lots of games and accessories. The more, the better: If you form a super alliance of 5 people, we’ll give away a DS each but slightly less in the way of add ons (but expect more fun if you meet and play together live). laFraise just printed this awesome shirt portraying the DS and its grandfather predecessor the GameBoy.

A great example of how design team collaboration in practice is this:

Its a collaboration of over 20 artists called Legion of Doom that won on the contest site Design By Humans. Each artists had the brief to design a robot, they were merged into the thing of beauty you see in front of you. Incidentally Computerlove has a t-shirt design contest on the go if your interested.

So go form alliances, co-create some mutual genius and win a set of Nintendo DS to play together wireless ….
