Oh btw, there is a term for this very topic, it's called "design by committee" and describes the try to make a decision by including *everyones* opinion.

Google finds 71,500 entries for that term:

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q="design by committee"&btnG=Google Search

Wikipedia on "design by committee":

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Design_by_committee

Just meant as food for thought :)

Honestly i have to agree with Dazzler.Just my opinion, but i think that the concept of (at least partially) basing the decisionmaking on comments and/or voting might turn out to not be so clever. As being said, designers might be biased and that goes for comments too: As a designer i might not comment on other people's designs out of politeness or might not say what i really think so to not hurt anyones feelings. In addition, the ones that have the most comments also might not automatically equal the best solution for your branding needs.Don't forget, we're only a small small fraction of your target audience (if at all) so i don't think you will get an accurate average opinion of what your customers really think would be the best design.Actually i do think you as the client so to speak should know what suits your needs better than everyone else.

Just my 2 cents...:)

So there are two mini-rounds yeah. First we look at all your reactions and compare the entries against the brief. From this we select a 1. shortlist of 10 or so designs. This is public and revealed to you, so you can comment again if you wish.

This shortlist goes to the panel, they see your reactions and together with Spreadshirt we pick who, if any actually make it to the 2. Grand Final. So we have the final say, you get to give input but there won't be a position where we're forced to promote a design that isn't usable for us.

@KLM: Yep even if your design makes the grand final you can continue to submit other drafts.

As for voting, we weren't sure and looking at your reactions, lets leave it out this week and see how it goes. If it make sense we can add it again in future weeks.

Seems a bit odd that we, as a bunch of designery types that are (probably) rather biased, get to vote on what Spreadshirt use as their logo. Would this mean that a logo that didn't get any votes is suddenly ineligible to win even though Spreadshirt really like it? If the answer is 'yes' then the competition doesn't make much sense to the client. If the answer is 'no' then it makes no sense to vote.

I'm looking forward to seeing the shortlist, and I'm also looking forward to posting my reaction to each – but I'm not convinced voting is the way to go.

So it's a branding-by-voting contest now ? Like, first the potential finalists for this week's shortlist have to be polled and then, when they're on the shortlist there will be another voting and *after that* they will go to the panelists who then finally decide who's the winner for this week ?

Wow, that's quite some effort; actually i had the impression this was a non-voting contest this time - but maybe that's just me...;)

Anyway, good luck everyone !

Nice new :)
If a designer has a Logo selected the first week, can he submit another one the second week?

It will change every week. So 1, 2, 10 or even none might be pushed through to the grand final. Hopefully that answers your question.
