This is nice, but it looks like ups a bit. I like the idea with the heraldic thing. So maybe try to do it less protection and more family heraldic? but try to keep it simple like this, cause it looks nice!

I like your thought, I myself would have never came up with this idea, although I have to agree with the other comments, it really kind of reminds me of sth like the Round Table of King Arthur
I think it’s pleasing on the eye but communicates a different idea to those in the brief - just my thoughts - good logo nevertheless!
