Pop your collar!

A shirt without a collar isn’t just the same. Find out why …
Take a shirt, a sweater or a jacket - they all have one thing in common: a collar. The collar is the perfect symbol for clothing and accordingly it must be the perfect logo for Spreadshirt.

The symbol is strong, remarkable, versatile, infinitely scalable and extremely stylish. (And those are just the first five adjectives that came to my mind ^^).

    Really stylish one:)

  2. 2 by harris | Oct 4th, 2007 at 12:00 pm

    Very good idea.
    Nicely done.

  3. 3 by Esteban | Oct 4th, 2007 at 12:02 pm

I personally really like this, very smart and nice colours. Fav!

  4. 4 by kontrasto | Oct 4th, 2007 at 12:05 pm

The logo is strnog and well designed, but how does it connect to customization?

  5. 5 by Japasa | Oct 4th, 2007 at 12:07 pm

puh.. it is so crazy! I am sure that you are in shortlist.

  6. 6 by Jebs | Oct 4th, 2007 at 12:09 pm

i like the style, clean, simple, but at the contrary of the others, i don’t see this logo fitting the contest, but that’s my own opinion

  7. 7 by netweight | Oct 4th, 2007 at 12:10 pm

Thanks y’all! That’s the feedback I was hoping for :)

  8. 8 by netweight | Oct 4th, 2007 at 12:15 pm

Oh, I was typing my commment after Esteban.

  9. 9 by Lars | Oct 4th, 2007 at 12:16 pm

It’s a good symbol. However, I’m not sure if I’m buying the idea of a common collar… this is definetly taken from a classic T-shirt.

  10. 10 by Jana Eggers | Oct 4th, 2007 at 12:29 pm

I like that this gets across apparel. And we could animate this as we’ve talked about with others… show other types of collars, before ending with this.

This also has the possibilty for the TM/icon concept Manuel has pushed for. Did you consider that aspect? And what about seeing if you could use the same concept with a ’stacked’ spread and shirt? Just testing ideas, not saying they have to be that way.

    very smart. salute!

  12. 12 by Japasa | Oct 4th, 2007 at 1:08 pm

honestly I am really envious about your perfect idea… :) It is one of my favourite entries because this significant logo has strong trademark and very memorable for all customers and flexible overall in corporate design. Respect! :) Good luck for this week!

  13. 13 by jonasbmf | Oct 4th, 2007 at 1:22 pm

like your presentation very much, good idea and well done. but i wonder how this reflects on the tagline. and how people who visit spreadshirt for the first time get the concept of what they do, by looking at the logo?

  14. 14 by Jebs | Oct 4th, 2007 at 2:01 pm

eheheh, you have a lot of success dude! that’s interesting to see how a logo can be subjective, for example i don’t agree with Japasa. for me, it could be a perfect logo for a sportswear label, for a clothes firm, but for spreadshirt, i don’t know, i feel like jonasbmf

  15. 15 by netweight | Oct 4th, 2007 at 2:13 pm

Thanks for all the feedback! Special thanks to Japasa (and again Ina Dimova) - such a comment means a lot given by a “competitor” :)

I understand the critics too. I think it’s simply impossible to fit the briefing 100 %.
It’s also a matter of the focus. Do you want a complex logo which explains the whole company structure and at the same time shows the complete product range (that was a bit exaggerated ;) or would you prefer a simple, clean and strong symbol?

Jana, thanks for the input. I’ll play around with that :) What do you mean with “we could animate this”? I must have missed that.

Jonasbmf, I can only speak for myself but if I read the name “Spreadshirt” i do have an idea of what they might do :)

Hey, there’s always someone commenting while I’m typing. I must become faster! :p

  17. 17 by maikostudio | Oct 4th, 2007 at 2:52 pm

    good job!
    ;D

  18. 18 by Leah | Oct 4th, 2007 at 3:23 pm

Yep, I see a LOT of potential with this! The shape itself is simple & striking, but effective it the communication. It reminds me of the type of symbol that is classic & stable, yet can always be modernized. It reminds me a lot of how the Nike symbol is used. I love it!

  19. 19 by shirtnerd | Oct 4th, 2007 at 3:58 pm

    hahaha :D
your photo with the collar-less shirt really gives me the creeps :)
only last night I was craving for the hieronymus busch of logo design, and the lord send you.
praise the lord for he giveth us collars!

  20. 20 by grafismo | Oct 4th, 2007 at 4:01 pm

Strong concept but I feel it needs a lot of work with typo and trademark symbol; I’m agree with jonasbmf, it looks like more sport wear maybe because live palette colours influence, a pet recipient or just a simple ashtray (please, I don´t try to ofend you, just speaking in design terms)…I miss the “execution” step following Manuel useful recommendations

  21. 21 by Trium | Oct 4th, 2007 at 4:04 pm

This looks very nice and well executed. Simpel and also unique.
What bothers me though is the fact that - to me - it does not say anything about creativity or personal branding. It may just say clothing and this is not the first thing to communicate about spreadshirt I think.

  22. 22 by alphameetsomega | Oct 4th, 2007 at 4:08 pm

Uo! Simple and well done, cool! Also beacuse of the color! Something very fresh!

  23. 23 by Pascalphilly | Oct 4th, 2007 at 5:19 pm

I like your color choice, and the Idea as well! Unfortunately this logo just speaks for apparel in general and not “your own label”.

  24. 24 by Formikula | Oct 5th, 2007 at 9:09 am

it´s a nice sign - no doubt. but it doesn´t get no point of what spreadshirt needs.

  25. 25 by rambo | Oct 5th, 2007 at 12:50 pm

nothing special with this one sorry

  26. 26 by netweight | Oct 5th, 2007 at 1:15 pm

I would like to know what made you commenting it then, rambo.

  27. 27 by JDELPHIN | Oct 5th, 2007 at 2:07 pm

Why not inserting a little sticker at the rear of the collar with ‘TM’ inside?

  28. 28 by azzaoui | Oct 5th, 2007 at 6:34 pm

really nice design but where is the label idea .i agree with jebs and jonasbfm maybe you should update it .that’s my only opinion

  29. 29 by Joel | Oct 5th, 2007 at 9:13 pm

Hoodies have no collar;) but anyway: the style is nice it just does not tell me so much honestly.

  30. 30 by klos | Oct 5th, 2007 at 11:30 pm

    Nice one.

  31. 31 by kimlarsen | Oct 6th, 2007 at 2:50 am

30 f*ckin comments? I made the same shit (first!) and got 3 :D
Strange though, I saw another guy with the same concept this week too. Telepathic? Or have anyone hired a spy!?

  32. 32 by netweight | Oct 6th, 2007 at 10:16 am

Darn, you got me! Now I have to confess that you are under my permanent observation. If you look over your left shoulder to the top wall corner - there’s my hidden camera. Say Cheese! ^^

  33. 33 by AlexanderWende | Oct 6th, 2007 at 8:42 pm

  34. 34 by huting | Oct 7th, 2007 at 6:11 pm

  35. 35 by criminal cat | Oct 7th, 2007 at 6:13 pm

    boredddddd………..

  36. 36 by netweight | Oct 8th, 2007 at 8:45 am

    Thanks, Alexander :)

And thanks for bumping my entry, criminal cat. ^^

  37. 37 by kogumi | Oct 8th, 2007 at 11:39 am

i love the idea but i wonder if it’s printable colors ? especially the green (the top one….. RVB ?)

  38. 38 by Tobias | Oct 9th, 2007 at 1:57 pm

simplicity is king. like this one very much. however, as many others have already stated - maybe you can try to include the “own label” aspect in another version

  39. 39 by Japasa | Oct 9th, 2007 at 3:02 pm

I have already expected that you are in shortlist.;) Congratulate!

  40. 40 by netweight | Oct 9th, 2007 at 8:17 pm

    I’ll do what I can, Tobias :)

Thanks, Japasa! And congrats back. Actually I would feel more comfortable if you didn’t come up with that Spreadshirt TM thingy ;)

  41. 41 by Japasa | Oct 11th, 2007 at 10:56 pm

Congratulate you! :) Although you got a lot of critic but I was almost sure that you are in grandfinal because your idea is really sooo simple! ;)

  42. 42 by T-Shirt Talk | Oct 12th, 2007 at 9:49 pm

Someone needs to check this logo with the grand finalist banner on it on the finalist page. The entire logo is covered by a banner. It’s hard to support a logo that you can’t see ;)

    matt

  43. 43 by azzaoui | Oct 12th, 2007 at 9:50 pm

    lol :)

  44. 44 by emperorsnewclothinginc | Oct 15th, 2007 at 5:57 pm

Now the competition is over I can finally say that I love your design! I had some jealousy issues but I got over it fairly slowly (in the end). Well, done mate. I do like the simplicity of it. If I don’t win I hope you do and I mean that in the nicest way possible :) Good luck to you!

  45. 45 by Selena | Oct 17th, 2007 at 8:51 pm

Reminds me kind of Dog-collar.. sorry

  46. 46 by netweight | Oct 17th, 2007 at 11:04 pm

No need to feel sorry, Selena. I really hope there’s a prize for the most commented entry. ^^

    Thanks a lot, emperorsnewclothinginc!

  47. 47 by Blauz | Oct 18th, 2007 at 10:55 pm

    for the win!

  48. 48 by Andre | Oct 27th, 2007 at 11:01 pm

For sure…that has to be the winner. Fits to the needs of Spreadshirts identity.
