Still the most flexible one , now more readable , what more do I want (:
(I loved your examples , how’bout some building advertisements ?)

So much more readable! Great! I’m still a big fan.

Maybe tweak the a? it is the only letter that stands out to me as being a little off. perhaps add some blue to it?

eheh…i thought when you were seleceted that the whole result was not readable at all…righ( now, you are improving quite well the design. that’s a good point, BUT, i still think that it’s sort of still too busy…i think that you can really improve it (not adding some photos :-p ) the logo itself and readability

  10. 10 by bean | Oct 2nd, 2007 at 3:58 pm

Mmh..They ar not just some photos. They also explaining the idea and concept behind my logo.I did focus on my logo too.Did u get any message from the “photos”? I put all my tot into my design and they are not only JUST some “photos”.Can u find out any part of my Spreadshirt logo from ur life?Have a look, you will realise we ar really surrounding wif those shapes. cheers! P.S ur designs have their own value too.

i like the version where the r is the same height as the rest of the letters (05 or 08.1), I think the height difference in the current version adds to the “busy-ness” of the logo. But it’s a great idea and awesome execution.

nice changes.the type is a lot cleaner but still very fun.

  13. 13 by Jebs | Oct 2nd, 2007 at 7:11 pm

Bean> wow, did i hurt you? of course i didn’t want to! your whole concept is without a doubt one of the most exciting! what i meant is the “logo itself” is too much complicated in my opinion, that’s just my point of view, that means nothing, because it’s all subjective.

All the extra features you added are clearly awesome, don’t misunderstand me please, i just think the logo needs perhaps to be more readable, more classical, but, perhaps i am totally wrong.

I hope you’ll understand more what i said previously with those explanation, what is sad is we are not so many to take the time to give our opinions to others, as much as we can, and if i hurt you, well, that’s just sad. good luck with your design!

PS: i didn’t understand what you meant “ur designs are their own value too” but no problems

Sorry abt my english if u can’t understand. So what is Your suggestion to make this logo more readable and less complicated?

  15. 15 by bean | Oct 2nd, 2007 at 10:10 pm

thx Legofish! i do like the small “r” too and ur logo is awesome! .Shirley thx for ur comment! :)

  16. 16 by Jebs | Oct 2nd, 2007 at 11:56 pm

bean> well, i don’t know…the black version (on white background) is obviously more readable, for me, it has more impact…but i think you should work on a simpler version for the main logo, and keep the variations as they are right now. see you ;-)

  17. 17 by jeffersonb | Oct 3rd, 2007 at 12:01 am

I think i prefer the first draft. I like the grey color in it and the alphabet was very cool with just 4 simplistic shapes. I think you could’ve gotten away with just making the “r” look less like an “f” and not remake half the letters. But oh well, compromises i guess.

Also, the idea behind the posters are a bit broad for me. It doesn’t feel like a shirt company ad, more like vacation or travel ads. I’d like see the shapes applied more to something specific to what the company does.

    It’s almost there though.

thx jebs and jeffersonb. I appreciated tht! :) Btw jeffersonb ar u from sin? I been there for couple of time..heh!luv the food!

    This logo is rad =D

Still loving the typography and its heaps better now with more legibility and still you manage to maintain FUN.

I really love your typography it shows visual contrast between one font and another and between text blocks, and the surrounding white space. I believe nothing attracts the eye and brain of the reader like strong contrast and distinctive patterns.

Understandable and good examples, am excited to see more.

    Good luck!

    about the poster / ad,

as an audience, i personally like the idea behind of the poster, for someone like me who is living in the city, not close to any nice blue sky and sea. I enjoy the excitement and message that is coming from a shirt company. It shows concern about our surroundings and soul, just like a t shirt, some of us wear it almost everyday, but not realizing it is so essential and close to us, that is part of our life. I believe it is able to catch attention and make the audience think what do we care about for life.

as a designer, I praise the effort and additional sparks to support the whole concept. If that is too straight forward and right on the face, telling the audiences that we are selling t shirts! It might be very sad, as there is nothing special to sell about Spreadshirt. From the example shown above, i see ‘detailed’ ( one of the product values ). Well, good luck!

:_( damn! Finally somebody got it!I feel so touching now!Somebody appreciated my design and Thought! Thx creatiffanimal! It is really part of our life isn’t? That is what i trying to tell from my poster. It is not a direct message but once u got it u will remember it.Sorry for my bad english again.

I see where your ad-idea is coming from, and the idea is nice. But showing a big bold black triangular shape on a nice beach feels quite negative to me and I dont get the connection to the shirt if the triangle replaces the umbrella.
Your other stuff is definetly nice. But why are you using a different “t” for spreadshirt than your font creation shows? The cross like t does look weird somehow.
Anyway a lot of effort you put in here, congrats!

  24. 24 by Bean | Oct 4th, 2007 at 4:23 am

thx for ur comment Pascalphilly and azzaoui!. Because i luv both “t” and i hope can get some feed back like u did :)! thx! I have look now azzaoui!

i like the poster idea too. especially, where strongly relate “design life” together. people now all busy and only look at their screen all the time, get use of high technolagy power to get all sources without imspiration. almost neglect the nature power where actually rejuvenated our life and our idea. ” Observe ” is very important in our life, idea is everywhere.and everywhere must is design . . .

love it, the flexibility and possiblities were built successfully.

  26. 26 by Japasa | Oct 9th, 2007 at 3:11 pm

your ideas of this draft are very interesting and has unlimited possibilites to be designed with such objects. congratulate that you are in shortlist! ;)

TOO MUCH EIGHTIES MEANS TO MUCH EIGHTIES!!! THIS LOGO IS NOT MODERN AND IT IS NOT A TIMELESS DESIGN. IT JUST LOOKS LIKE AN EIGHTIES DESIGN.

  33. 33 by azzaoui | Oct 12th, 2007 at 9:37 pm

    congratulation i like this concept

  34. 34 by schimanski | Oct 13th, 2007 at 11:25 am

dogbite you’re my man. hahaha. this is really the most hyped, but worst ever. i mean even if it’s not modern, it just looks so ugly i could scream. the ads are weak. it’s not readable in smaller sizes. but hey it’s so damn playfull. and every shoppartner will love to play around with it. haha. funny. get back to your kindergarten.

  35. 35 by dogbite | Oct 13th, 2007 at 6:58 pm

    HEY SCHIMANSKI , YOU’RE RIGHT!!!

  36. 36 by bean | Oct 14th, 2007 at 2:02 am

hey guys thx for ur comments! :)

  37. 37 by shirtnerd | Oct 17th, 2007 at 4:06 am

dogbite and shimanski. come on guys, get your diapers changed!
this is no 1980s design, this is so darn 1920s! I rember it as if it was yesterday :D

    this is the new Bauhaus!

check the Schabloneneschrift of Josef Albers
( http://www.p22.com/terminal/albersart.html ) or the fonts developed by Herbert Bayer…

the problem with overly geometric fonts is that too much abstraction defies the harmonic proportions inherent in ye good old fonts, and in the extreme case also their readability.
maybe it would be different for people growning up in a world abundant with geometric fonts, but history has forced our culture to stick with antiqua as the point of reference…

the evolution of bean’s ‘universal langauge font’ shows, that it is extremly hard to create a font from a minimal number of simple geometric shapes, which is not typographically offensive.
the new version tries to be more readable, but in my opinion it can not really live up to the promise of a universal language any more. just look at the number and complexity of geometric shapes used for building the complete alphabet…

nevertheless the idea of a playful tangram-based do-it-yourself font is still fascinating, even though it may take some typographical genius to make it work, especially for longer words, or even complete headlines. ;)

dogbite and shimanski are partly correct in referring to the 1980s, since there was a revival of experimential or “bad taste” design, concerning colour-combinations as well as font design.
especially the use of cyan inside the font provides the logo with a swell 1980s retro-appeal.
but I think that’s just fine! If most of you youngsters don’t remember the 1920s anymore, why not have a 1980s revival instead?

and shimanski: actually it is time, that all of us ‘get back to kindergarden’.
pretending to be grown-up will not take us any further. I’d rather suggest to stay open minded and playful, to make the vision of life long kindergarden finally come true :D

bean: keep up the good work - and good luck!
